jakelodwick: Two years ago today I was fired from Vimeo.

On November 7th, 2007, in a one-on-one meeting, I asked my super-boss Barry Diller if I could report directly to him instead of to Michael Jackson, the former BBC guy who was attempting to manage me. Apparently I didn’t “ask” so much as give him an ultimatum, as he announced in what felt like some sort of checkmate.
I’ve had a lot of false starts in the intervening 730 days. Each one’s taught me something, usually some variation on “You don’t know shit”. Today I worked for 8 hours on my latest project, a pair of “personal productivity programs” that I’m making for my own benefit and enjoyment. Now that the demon is gone, I’m happily enjoying the work and not obsessed with the outcome, and I don’t care if it never becomes a phenomenon. I’m doing a good job and that’s its own reward.

Man, how the timing is ironic. I was ushered out with Jakob that day; that was my tiny studio apartment and my old bong. I learned an incredible amount about everything working with Jake and am so glad to see him returning to his old self.

Under the banner of the Hii Def Inc. internet incubator, brothers Jonathan and David Marcus, former Vimeo design lead Jack Zerby, developer extraordinaire John Wehr and front-end wizard Derek Odegard (who recently joined the team from Meetup), created Flavors as just one of three companies to launch in 2009. Prior to Flavors.me, the Marcus brothers worked with the one man development train they call Brent Hargrave and designer wunderkind Rob Morris to produce online sneaker search engine Superkix. The team will soon release an online storefront tool by the name of Goodsie.

Twitter will introduce paid subscription options starting in January that will allow account holders to charge audiences who want to look at their tweets and access links to their external websites. The plan will allow audiences to view some text on all tweets but will charge a fee to unlock access to certain images, external URLs and text.
Twitter Japan to introduce payment model Apparently its inside-out topsy-turvy day in Japan. Either that, or things work a bit differently over there.
The Flavors.me beta will start on Cyber-Monday (11/30), not today. Sorry Jake :( For the first time, pages will be publicly accessible. Thanks for your patience!

Bonobos’ other co-founder, Brian Spaly, started making the trousers in 2007, while he and Mr. Dunn were housemates at Stanford Graduate School of Business.

Bonobos, a Pants Retailer, Seeks to Banish the Saggy Bottom - NYTimes.com There are few other threads that I allow to adorn my bottom. After my first pair of Bonobos, I ditched jean altogether and have never looked back, or down. I cannot recommend their textile wonders enough, and I won best dressed in high school in case you didn’t already know, aks’ somebody.

Sony and Barnes & Noble don’t have e-readers in stock. Both companies will heavily promote their e-readers, which are sold out/unavailable until January. Amazon has Kindles in stock. Consumers will go to Amazon for e-readers when they learn they can’t give a Sony Daily Reader or a Barnes & Noble Nook as present in December.
Google Wave was built to show younger people how older people feel when they try to use the Internet.

…or a computer or a smart phone.

adamcoomes (via soupsoup) (via kapi) (via asprettyasasong) (via dalasverdugo) Phew, I assumed I was loosing touch when I opened Wave for the first time the other day. Still eager to try it out for inbound feedback and customer support.
